Shoppers and visitor’s to the city’s downtown have more places to park now that emergency repair work has wrapped on the West Tower parking garage.

The city closed the garage in July at for repairs and says the parking facility will finally reopen on Saturday, just in time for the World of Jazz festival at nearby Garden Square.

The five-level parking garage was partially closed before being fully shuttered for repairs last month. The structure is nearly 10 year old and has approxiametly 450 parking spaces available for residents, visitors and staff.

City staff said the work included reinforcing the structure, repairing concrete pillars and fixing waterproofing issues to extend the life of the garage.

The City Hall parking garage was also closed temporarily this year due to emergency generator repairs.

The city is also spending millions on the Brampton Downtown Revitalization Streetscape Project, which will see upgrades like new traffic signals at six downtown intersections, refurbished roads and sidewalks with granite pavers, more public spaces, and a new bike path.
