Three more big names in the hockey world are coming to town to raise funds for healthcare projects including Brampton’s planned second hospital.

Hockey Night in Brampton is back this summer, a charity hockey game to help raise funds in support of William Osler Health System’s youth mental health services as well as the new Brampton hospital.

The game already has an all-star roster including Maple Leafs’ Captain John Tavares as well as Montreal Canadien and Brampton’s own Sean Monahan, and three more stars have been added to the list.

Olympic Gold-medalists Renata Fast and Brianne Jenner, and Erik Gudbranson of the Columbus Blue Jackets will lace up alongside Tavares and Monahan. Other names already announced include Maple Leaf defenceman Mark Giordano and former Chicago Blackhawk Jeremy Roenick.

Hockey Night in Brampton was first launched in 2019 and in its first year helped raise $411,000 in support of the cardiology program at Brampton Civic Hospital.

Along with the new hospital, the charity game will also support the William Osler Health System’s youth mental health services, which is seeing a surge in patient volume with more than 28,000 adolescents in Ontario currently waitlisted to receive mental health care.

“We need to get our second hospital built and this fundraiser will help us do that,” said Mayor Brown. “Come see some of your favourite current NHL stars and hockey legends go toe to toe while we work towards supporting a critical healthcare need in our community.”

The charity game runs on Aug. 23 at Brampton’s CAA Centre and will have all-star coaches and former NHLers Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour leading two teams of hockey legends.

Tickets are available now, and donations can also be made directly to William Osler Health Foundation.
