Drivers might find it takes longer to navigate through downtown Brampton as a major intersection will be closed for weeks due to ongoing construction.

The Region of Peel will block off the intersection of Main Street North and Nelson Street West / Theatre Lane to all traffic starting on Monday (Nov. 13).

The shutdown is expected to last until at least Nov. 24 and will lead to detours as crews work to replace the watermain and sanitary sewer system along Queen Street and Main Street.

The intersection will be closed to all traffic, and there will be no on-street parking within the construction zone. The detour routes for drivers will be marked, while access for pedestrian and emergency vehicles is still permitted.

Peel Public Works says crews will be working 24/7 to get the work done, and “will do everything possible to keep overnight noise to a minimum” by limiting louder construction to daytime hours.

Pedestrians, cyclists and drivers are being urged to take extra caution while in the construction zone and watch for construction crews.
