Months of mail thefts leads to warning in Caledon following Brampton break-ins

Police are warning residents to be prompt picking up their parcels amid a string of mailbox break-ins in Caledon following several similar thefts in Brampton earlier this summer.

The OPP says there has been an uptick in recent months of thefts from both community and individual mailboxes across the town of Caledon.

Investigators haven’t disclosed how many break-ins have been reported but say the thefts are “occurring predominantly during the daytime hours.”

Peel Regional Police confirmed earlier this summer that officers had received at least five mailbox break-in reports in the northeast end of Brampton between June 5 and June 12. A photo shared on social media showed what appeared to be a rushed raid of several mailboxes, with some remaining intact and untouched.

With mailbox thefts on the rise, police say residents should check the mail frequently and clear out your mail box regularly.

“A good practice is to not leave mail in the mailbox for long periods of time…If away for an extended period, have a trusted person pick up your mail,” police said.
