In Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, and Hamilton, the upcoming week promises a mix of weather, alternating between cloudy and sunny days with occasional chances of flurries and fluctuating temperatures.

Last week southern Ontario faced similar weather which brought mainly cloudy conditions with sunshine, rain, and cool temperatures. On Thursday (Dec. 7), the region experienced up to 4 cm of snow following a weather advisory from Environment Canada.

As of today (Dec. 10), temperatures are expected to reach a high of 5 C with a 30 per cent chance of rain, transitioning to snow flurries by midnight. Wind speeds are forecasted to increase to 20 km/h, ushering in cooler air as temperatures gradually decline to -1 C by the evening. This shift is expected to trigger lake-effect snow just in time for Monday’s commutes, as anticipated by the Weather Network.

“Accumulations by Tuesday morning could range from five to 15 cm in the snowbelt regions. Paired with brisk winds, the snowfall may create challenging travel conditions— at times— in various areas,” notes the Weather Network.

For most of southern Ontario, Tuesday will be mainly sunny with high of 5 C. Cloudy periods may begin later in the afternoon, persisting into the evening as temperatures fall to -3 C with a 30 per cent chance of snow.

According to meteorologists, Wednesday will feature a mix of sun and clouds, with a 40 per cent chance of flurries in the morning and afternoon. Temperatures will sit at 1 C and are projected to hit below -7 C, making it the coldest day of the week. The cloudiness will dissipate, giving way to clear skies by the evening.

Environment Canada calls for a bright and sunny Thursday with clear skies and a high of 2 C. Cloudy periods are expected to kick in by the evening, with temperatures dropping to freezing at 0 C.

The combination of sunshine and clouds makes a comeback on Friday with a high of plus 4. As the day advances, cloudy periods are expected to roll in as temperatures dip to -1 C.

The sunny and cloudy weather pattern continues into Saturday, with temperatures reaching a high of 4 C. There’s also a 30 per cent chance of rain making an appearance throughout the day.

Similar to the previous snow squall event, though there’s a potential for intermittent bursts of snow to hit Southern Ontario on Monday into Tuesday, the region is still “tapping its foot in anticipation of the first major snowfall of the year,” highlights the Weather Network.
