A nasty bit of winter weather could make Monday’s commutes difficult in much of southern Ontario.

Precipitation is expected to begin Monday morning (Mar. 7) as a mix of ice pellets and freezing rain, then transition to rain as temperatures climb during the day.

However, a risk of freezing rain remains in the early afternoon for areas away from the lakeshore that don’t climb above the freezing mark.

The precipitation will change over to wet snow by late afternoon before ending in the evening.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, as both the morning and afternoon commute will likely be affected due to roadways becoming icy.

In areas that receive more freezing rain, ice build-up of 2 to 4 mm is possible.

Travel tips include slowing down in slippery conditions, watching for taillights ahead, and maintaining a safe following distance.

Once this winter weather passes we’ll thankfully see clear and sunny skies for most of the week, with flurries returning later on Thursday and Friday.
