Possible measles exposure at Pearson Airport in Mississauga, Ontario and 3 other locations

Mississauga’s Pearson Airport may be a bit chaotic since the resumption last week of international travel, but nobody’s calling it messy or dirty.

At least they shouldn’t be, according to a respected industry rating organization that has named Pearson the cleanest airport in North America for 2021.

In its annual rankings, London-based Skytrax, which has been reviewing airports and airlines worldwide since 1989, put the Mississauga airport atop the list on this side of the world, followed by Vancouver in second place and Houston’s George Bush Airport in third.

Montreal’s airport was the only other Canadian spot to crack the top 10, placing fifth.

Tokyo Haneda topped the list as World’s Cleanest Airport this year, followed by Singapore Changi in second spot and Tokyo Narita in third.

The site didn’t list where Pearson Airport, Canada’s largest international travel hub, ranks among the world’s airports.

The award is Pearson’s second this year for cleanliness.

Earlier, Airports Council International, a body created in 1991 by airport operators around the world to represent their common interests, recognized Pearson for Best Hygiene Measures in North America.

Pearson Airport, which handled 50.5 million passengers in 2019, is the second-busiest international air passenger gateway in North and South America, and the 30th-busiest airport in the world.
