Mississauga native and Hollywood action movie star Simu Liu once again came up big in final Jeopardy, but this time it wasn’t enough to grab him a victory in last night’s (Oct. 16) latest installment of Celebrity Jeopardy.

Trailing throughout the semi-final match, Liu doubled his total to $20,000 by answering the final Jeopardy question correctly.

However, moments later actor Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project) also nailed the evening’s final question to secure the narrow victory over the 33-year-old Marvel movie star. He finished with $22,601.

Actor/comedian Iliza Shlesinger, who provided the “way off” answer of the match earlier when she chimed in with “Duracell rabbit” instead of the correct answer “Energizer Bunny,” finished a distant third.

Both Liu and Shlesinger still took home an additional $50,000 apiece for their respective charities just for making it to the semi-finals. Liu’s chosen charity is Stop AAPI Hate, which seeks to reduce hate against Asian American Pacific Islander communities.

Late in the quiz match, Liu had two Double Jeopardy chances to narrow the gap between himself and Barinholtz, who led pretty much throughout the contest. However, the star of Marvel’s 2021 mega-hit Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings failed to answer correctly on both occasions.

With his win, Barinholtz advances to the finals of the popular TV show’s latest season. Celebrity Jeopardy airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Liu made a dramatic final-round comeback on Sept. 25 on Celebrity Jeopardy as the popular TV show returned for another season. That quarter-final win sent Liu into last night’s semi-finals.

Again trailing throughout the evening, Liu bet his entire amount of $11,600 in final Jeopardy and came up big to defeat comedian Andy Richter, who had led all the way heading into the final round.

Liu won $23,200 for his chosen charity that night.
