On the last day of competition, Mississauga’s Katie Vincent won three gold medals at the 2023 International Canoe Federation (ICF), Canoe Sprint World Championships in Germany.

She has also secured a spot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The ” incredible performance” happened yesterday (Aug. 27) in three non-Olympic canoe events during the final day of competition in Duisburg, Germany, according to the Canadian Olympic Committee website.

Truly remarkable! Katie Vincent (Mississauga Canoe Club) takes home the in C1 5000m gruelling event! Her third world championship title in one day,” Canoe Kayak Canada said in a tweet.

Vincent, 27, won the world titles in the women’s C1 500m, women’s C1 5,000m and mixed C2 500m events.

What makes the feat more remarkable is Vincent broke two bones in her arm in a cycling accident three months and two weeks before the world championships.

“Thanks to everyone for all the support over the past few months, 13 weeks since I fractured 2 bones in my arm, grateful to be back on track and ready to race!” Vincent said in a post on Instagram on Aug. 19.

She worked hard in the last few weeks before heading to Germany.

“I was off the water for more than four weeks, pretty much all of June, so we knew we had eight weeks to prepare on the water, so it’s just nice to perform and show that it didn’t hold us back and we were able to still be at our best,” Vincent told CBC.

This is the second time Vincent has won three golds on the last day of the world competition. She won three events on the final day of competition in Dartmouth, N.S. last year.

Vincent previously trained with the Mississauga Canoe Club but is now based in Dartmouth, according to the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Vincent started padding at the age of 10 and made her first appearance for Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championships.

Laurence Vincent Lapointe and Katie Vincent won bronze for Canada in the women’s C2 500 event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

And Vincent has now secured an Olympic quota spot for Canada on Saturday alongside Sloan MacKenzie in the women’s C2 500 event.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in Paris.

Vincent now has nine gold and three bronze medals at world championships dating back to 2017.
