The first ice skating loop in Mississauga should open in early 2024.

The 210-metre-long loop in Port Credit Memorial Park has come closer to completion in the last few weeks but it won’t be open in time for the holidays, according to the City of Mississauga.

Announced in August 2022, initially, the path was expected to open sometime in December 2023.

Port Credit Memorial Park is located along the Credit River and Lake Ontario and is a popular spot for cultural events, basketball and other activities.

The new, 3.5 metre-wide path will double as a walking path in the warmer months. And in the winter, a glycol cooling system will keep the ice ready for skating.

The estimated cost of the path construction is $1.9 million, a City of Mississauga spokesperson tells insauga.com.

Most residents seem excited about the new addition to the park.

“So exciting. This is money well spent on the community,” one resident wrote on the Port Credit Life Facebook group.

“Looking forward to this!” Terry Lankstead said in his post on the group’s page.

But others complained about the ongoing construction.

“…we CAN’T use the entire path now, so I am not a fan of this,” one person wrote.

The construction should be complete soon.

“Staff are closely monitoring the construction and will provide an opening date in the new year,” the city spokesperson said.
