It’s a historical moment for Mississauga!

Whether you’ve explored the city or currently call it home, you can now hit play and listen to Mississauga’s new anthem.

Mikey Bloom, an emerging rapper with Ethiopian roots and a Mississauga upbringing claimed victory at Sauga’s 50th Anthem Anniversary Contest.

The Mississauga Arts Council, Metalworks Studios, and SoundsUnite organized a competition inviting local musicians and songwriters to create an original anthem about Mississauga.

Launched last fall, the contest aimed to find the best anthem that incorporated the word “Mississauga” and reflected the spirit and diversity of the city.

The competition which ran through an online platform, sought to leave a musical mark on Canada’s seventh-largest city, offering participants the chance to contribute to its dynamic future.

Out of the many entrants, Bloom stood out, and was chosen by a jury connected to the city’s music scene. He was awarded with a recording session at Metalworks Studios, where his winning composition was titled ‘Mississauga’s 50th Anthem. ‘

In a recent Instagram post, Bloom expressed gratitude to those who supported him in his musical journey, “Thanks to everyone that helped make this happen! Truly honoured and grateful for this opportunity.”

The hip hop inspired track produced by DWNTWNSOUND runs just under three minutes. It boasts a catchy tune and features repeated and memorable lyrics “Mississauga from Square One to the waters.”

The song can be streamed on major online platforms like Spotify and YouTube.
