A 32-year-old woman from Mississauga is facing several criminal charges connected to a scheme where bank loans were taken out under another person’s name.

Police in Cobourg, Ontario say they charges stem from a lengthy investigation that began last year when a resident from that area reported multiple loans were taken out from a bank without their knowledge.

Investigators recently made an arrest in the case when the suspect was identified.

Police have not released the name of the person charged, but want the public to be vigilant in watching for similar schemes.

The person is charged with identity fraud, making a false statement, uttering a forged document, fraud under $5,000 and possession of proceeds obtained from crime.

The accused person has been released under a promise to appear in court at a later date.
