Plenty of new highrise condo buildings and office towers are planned for Mississauga’s downtown core in the coming years.

But City of Mississauga officials are also trying to ensure there’s enough greenspace for people to enjoy.

With that in mind, the City has plans to build two new parks in the City Centre area and expand and improve upon two others. All four are located within only a few blocks of Square One Shopping Centre.

As officials look to improve John “Bud” Cleary and Zonta Meadows parks and build new parks at Webb Dr./Redmond Rd. and Kariya Dr./Elm Dr. W., they’re seeking input from the public on the preliminary designs for each greenspace project.

The City has made an online survey available for residents and others to complete by July 10.

During consultation with members of the public in 2020, Mississauga officials were told that residents “wanted to see additional park amenities, natural features and trails.”

Officials say that feedback has and will continue to inform the park designs.

Currently, John “Bud” Cleary Park, at 450 Webb Dr. (at Redmond Rd.), features a playground, open greenspace, on-street parking and a soccer field.

Zonta Meadows, at 410 Rathburn Rd. W. (near Grand Park Dr.), features Canada’s first accessible playground, outdoor fitness equipment, a soccer field, two public tennis courts and parking.

One of the planned parks will be located on Webb Dr., right across the street from John “Bud” Cleary Park, while the other will be located several blocks to the east on Elm Dr. W. (at Kariya Dr.).

Zonta Meadows was the first park in Canada to add an accessible playground. It will see further upgrades under a City of Mississauga plan to revitalize downtown core parks. (Photo: City of Mississauga)
