Mississauga music teacher facing sex assault charges

A music teacher who also volunteers with a Catholic church in Mississauga is facing two charges, in relation to a sexual assault investigation.

The Peel Regional Police say investigators from its Special Victims Unit say have arrested and charged a 69-year-old man, who was lending his time to St. Francis Xavier Church. A media release said the Peel police learned on Jan. 19 that the accused had allegedly sexually assaulted a young person, which prompted the opening of an investigation that remains open.

On Thursday (Feb. 3), investigators arrested Remy Fernandes, 69, of Mississauga and charged him with sexual Assault and sexual interference. He appeared in a Brampton court on Friday.

Peel police investigators believe there may be additional victims.

Fernandes currently teaches music lessons from his home. He taught in the private school system before retiring in 2008.
