The City of Mississauga is mandating all its employees and volunteers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 31, or face regular testing for the virus.
“Since the beginning of the pandemic, the City of Mississauga has been a leader in implementing public health measures to protect employees and the residents we serve,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie in a statement this morning, moments before a scheduled press conference where more details will be announced.
“We continue to encourage residents and employees to get vaccinated. It’s one of our best lines of defence against COVID-19 and the Delta variant,” she continued. “The City of Mississauga has a duty to ensure we create a safe working environment.”
Those among the City’s more than 7,000 workers, in addition to volunteers, who are not fully vaccinated by Oct. 31 will be subject to routine COVID testing before being allowed to enter their workplace.
More information to come later this morning.
