A Mississauga man is dead after the roadway he was driving on collapsed.
Emergency crews rushed to Dundonald Road in Thames Centre, near London, Ontario for a report of a serious, single-vehicle crash on Aug. 23 just after 10 p.m., OPP said in a press release.
The roadway collapsed underneath a transport truck as it travelled on Dundonald Road, resulting in the collision, police said.
Sadly, the driver of the transport truck, a 59-year-old of Mississauga and lone occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at scene.
Water levels were very high as “unprecedented” storms with heavy rainfall, passed through the area on Aug. 23, OPP said. Some residents described the flooding as “monumental.”
There were many road closures due to the storm and “some harrowing rescues” by local fire crews, police said.
Dundonald Road was closed and is expected to remain closed for the next week or two as crews repair the roadway.
