The green flag will drop at an indoor go-karting track in Mississauga in 10 days.

K1 Speed, a chain of indoor go-karting facilities, says it will hold the grand opening of its new 45,000-sq.-ft. facility at 1330 Eglington Ave. on June 18. The facility uses 100 per cent electric karts that travel at speed of up to 72 km/h (45 miles per hour), and are fully computerized in order to make sure the fun stays on the same side. The facility will offer 33 adult karts and 20 junior karts. Since the karts are electric, vehicle noise and fumes from fuel are eliminated.

The racetrack will also have state-of-the-art LED lighting in order to enhance the experience.

The company announced last summer that it was coming to Mississauga.

In a release, K1 Speed said it will hold a VIP event on June 17, before the grand opening the following day. One promotion will be a tattoo contest where K1 Speed will reveal a tattoo designed by Mississauga’s Modern Ink Tattoos. The first person to get the tattoo at the event will win what is being termed, “Free racing for life.”

The track includes a lounge with a food and beverage service. K1 Speed says the facility has the capacity to host private events with up to 140 guests, and is also an option for special events such as birthday parties, bachelor or bachelorette parties and corporate events.

The K1 Speed Canada track in Mississauga will be open from 12 noon to 10 p.m. from Monday to Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays; 10 a.m.-12 midnight on Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.

Additional information about the facility and its products, including racing leagues, is available at k1speed.ca.
