A teacher at a Mississauga high school has been charged with sexual exploitation after a young person was allegedly approached and asked to take part in sexual relations on a number of occasions.

Peel Regional Police aren’t saying which high school the teacher works at, nor are they releasing information on whether the alleged victim was a student at the high school in question.

Police did say that none of the alleged interactions took place on school property.

According to investigators with the Peel police Special Victims Unit, a man allegedly invited the young person to have sexual relations on a number of occasions between September and November of 2019.

The young person refused the advances, police say.

Investigators arrested a man on Monday (June 20).

Daniel Hayes, 40, of Guelph, is charged with sexual exploitation. He was held for a bail hearing.

The investigation is continuing and police want to speak with anyone else who may have information.

Anyone with information on this or any similar incident is asked to contact investigators at 905-453-2121, ext. 3460, or anonymous tips may be submitted by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
