Mississauga residents who want to pick up a free COVID-19 rapid test can do so this morning at a drive-through location starting at 9:00 a.m (Jan 6, 2022).

The drive-through location will be at the University of Toronto Mississauga’s (UTM) Recreation, Athletics and Wellness Centre building. This is a drive-through location only.

The location address is 1825 Outer Circle Rd., Mississauga.

The availability of test sites and test kits comes as part of the Ontario government’s latest response to surging cases of the virus due to the onset of the Omicron variant.

Ontario has made available two million rapid test kits to be provided free of charge through mid-January at pop-up testing sites in high-traffic settings such as malls, other retail areas, holiday markets, public libraries and transit hubs.

In Mississauga, test kits are available for people who are asymptomatic and have not recently been in contact with someone with COVID-19.

Test kits are limited to one per person and people visiting the pop-up sites must wear a mask and follow other public health measures on-site.

Ontario government officials say the holiday season testing blitz is intended to provide an additional layer of protection against COVID-19 and the Omicron variant.

The undertaking is part of the Province’s Enhanced COVID-19 Testing Strategy.

UPDATE: At about 9:30 a.m., UTM announced via Twitter that all available rapid antigen screening kits had been distributed.

One person who responded to the tweet expressed frustration, saying more test kits are needed for post-secondary students.

“Ridiculous. Clearly not enough available. We barely moved in line…,” they wrote.
