Mississauga getting 2 disc golf courses

Right on time for a summer fling that allows for social distancing, Mississauga will get its first two disc golf courses.
Ward 1 City Councillor Stephen Dasko announced Tuesday (July 13) that courses will soon be laid out at Dellwood Park and Spruce Park. Disc golf involves the same idea as golf, only the players throw a disc from a tee-off area into a metal basket mounted in the ground. The goal is to complete each ‘hole’ in as few throws as possible.
The project has been overseen by the city’s Park Planning department. Dasko said both courses are expected to be ready for use this summer. Both will be BYOD (bring your own disc).

Both will have layouts designed for beginners. Dellwood Park will have a six-hole layout and take 25 to 30 minutes to play. People looking for a low-impact exercise can expect to get in about 900 steps in one round.
Spruce Park will have a four-hole layout, with longer distances from the tee-off area to the basket. It will take 20 to 25 minutes play, and involve about 710 steps.
Disc golf has grown in popularity in recent years to the point there is a U.S.-based pro tour.
It has also been referenced in two comedy series that currently have a second life in the streaming universe. In a 2006 episode of “The Office,” Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) says he started a disc golf club while he was in university, proclaiming “I live to frolf!” As well, Dave Rose (Zachary Knighton) and Jane Kerkovich-Williams (Eliza Coupe) also play disc golf during a 2011 episode of the cult-favourite hangout comedy “Happy Endings.”
