Mississauga Fire mourns the loss of member

Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services is mourning the loss of active member Stephanos “Steve” Makris.
Makris, 51, joined Mississauga Fire in October 1999, according to a message from the Mississauga Fire Fighters Association on Aug. 24. He leaves behind his wife Tammy, a son and two daughters.
He died after a long battle with cancer, which he faced “with strength and determination.”
His impact on the fire service was substantial and the loss is profound.
“All who had the privilege of knowing Steve know he was a dedicated professional and a true gentleman who always had time to teach others and his passion for this job always shone through,” the message reads.
The flag was lowered to half-mast at Fire Station 122, 3600 Thomas St.
“Our thoughts are with Steve’s family and friends through this devastating time. RIP Steve, we’ve got this from here,” the fire service tweeted.
