That’s a wrap, literally.
It was quite the sight as crowds gathered at Mississauga’s City Centre in Celebration Square on Friday, July 7, to witness history in the making as an assembly line was stationed and ready to break the world record for the longest falafel wrap.
The show-stopping spectacle was part of Muslim Fest 2023— an annual three-day festival that celebrates the best in Muslim Art, Culture, and Entertainment.
Running on its 20th anniversary, it seemed that organizers at Muslim Fest had to go big or go home and they seemed to deliver.
The popular Shelby’s Legendary Shawarma —known for taking classic middle eastern cuisine and tweaking the recipes to create food that is modern, appetizing and flavourful, provided the ingredients and volunteers to put together the epically long falafel wrap.
The record breaking event commenced at 4 p.m., as the assembly line began putting together their section of the wrap, while “The Shawarma Man” was the delegated commentator on the mic reporting to the audience all the action, as it went down.

Amongst the enthusiastic crowd of people was Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie who was given the honour to measure the completed falafel wrap to see if Mississauga crushed another world record.
So how big was it?
From beginning to end the falafel wrap ran 203 feet, which is close to 62 metres!
Audience members howled and cheered as the results were announced that Mississauga had in fact broken the Guinness world record.
However, that’s not all. The entire falafel was donated to the local food bank.
