Mississauga begins leaf vacuum program this week

Mississauga residents will be able to get their fallen leaves to the curb starting this week and have them vacuumed away.

The program will continue through various neighbourhoods on a rotational basis and run through to December 2.

However, not all neighbourhoods are eligible for the vacuum service. It is targeted to those areas that have homes that are 35 years old or those that are heavily treed.

If your address is listed for the leaf pickup service, you’ll get a notice in the mail letting you know when leaves will be picked up in your area.

If your area is listed for leaf pickup:

  • Rake leaves to the curb or ditch a day or two before the start of your collection week
  • Don’t mix other items such as wood, bricks or brush as they can damage equipment and injure workers
  • Keep the road and curbside storm drains clear of raked leaves

As well, the Region of Peel will pick up leaves and yard waste that you have collected and placed in bins or paper bags on your regular waste collection day until mid-December.

The City of Mississauga also recommends composting your leaves or spread them around the base of your trees to fertilize the soil by protecting it against extreme temperatures.

Follow the leaf pickup route map to find out when the vacuum program will come to your street.
