Message from Osler’s President and CEO
Published November 25, 2024 at 1:38 pm
Autumn symbolizes change, and at William Osler Health System (Osler), we are embracing this as we continue to advance on our transformative journey.
I am proud to share Osler’s 2024-2029 Strategic Plan: Going Beyond for Our People and Communities. Informed by 3,700 voices in our community, this ambitious plan will guide us through a historic chapter of health care evolution in our region. I invite you to watch a video that brings our new Plan to life at on Osler’s website.
A major milestone in this journey is the evolution of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s new hospital, which has now reached the Request for Proposals (RFP) stage – thanks to the dedication of Osler’s teams, government partners, Osler Foundation and our incredible community.
This fall, we also launched the Osler Research Institute for Health Innovation (ORIHI), a dynamic hub for cutting-edge research, education, and driving innovation in patient care. Read more about ORIHI on Osler’s website.
From the new Peel Memorial Hospital and ORIHI, our journey to becoming an Academic Health Centre and our role as primary clinical partner for Toronto Metropolitan University’s new School of Medicine in Brampton, we are shaping the future of health care in our region. Thank you for your continued and vital support as we deliver on our Vision of World-class health care inspired by our people and communities.

Community Update from Osler
State-of-the-art Cancer Care
Projections show that the number of cancer cases in the communities served by Osler is expected to double by 2038. In recent years, Osler has built up its cancer care services to include rapid cancer diagnostic programs, advanced surgical techniques, innovative immunotherapy delivery, and access to global clinical trials for new anticancer treatments. Most recent innovations include:
- Osler is the first hospital in Canada to offer in-house liquid biopsy testing for cancer care, a rapid and personalized cancer diagnosis and treatment option, right here in our community.
- Osler’s Lung Cancer Screening Program was the first of its kind in a community hospital in Canada.
- Earlier this year, Osler partnered with the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network to enhance clinical expertise, research, and education in Brampton, North Etobicoke, and surrounding areas.
To address the rapidly growing demand for cancer care services, Osler is currently working on plans for a comprehensive cancer care centre at Brampton Civic Hospital that will further expand access to new and expanded cancer services – including radiation therapy – closer to home.
Know Where to Go for Care in the Community
Osler reminds patients and families about options for care depending on their symptoms, and strongly encourages vaccinations to protect against flu, RSV and COVID-19 – they are the best way to prevent severe illness, including hospitalization.
