It really will be the dog days of summer when Brampton Animal Services brings their furry friends to the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives this August.
Usually used to describe the hottest days of the year, PAMA is bringing the dog days of summer to life with the Oh My Dog! exhibit and a new program promoting adoptions through Brampton Animal Services.
Running through August, the team-up will see members of the BAS team bring animals to PAMA for a meet-and-greet with guests to learn about fostering and adopting pets.
Animal services recently said the shelter was over capacity and struggling with an influx of dogs. Shelter staff have had to consider “doubling up” critters in kennels due to the lack of space.
“Brampton Animal Services will be at PAMA sharing information about pets available for adoption,” the gallery says. “Learn more about pet adoption process and fostering an animal, plus meet a special animal guest each week.”
The four-legged fun continues with the Oh My Dog! exhibit running through to the fall, showcasing historical and contemporary works by artists of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds who have focused on the dog as a symbol.
Oh My Dog! explores “perspectives on the dog’s relationship with humans around cultural identity, social and aesthetic values, ethics, animal rights, lifestyle, and consumerism.” There’s also the Kimutsik photo exhibit, featuring dogs running freely “and returning as spirits set against a kaleidoscopic backdrop.”
There are also plenty of other activities and exhibits to see if dogs aren’t your thing like the Live Art Competition, which gives artists the opportunity to paint out in the open downtown allowing spectators to watch their work come alive.
Or learn about the science at the Fire and Ice with Mad Science event featuring indoor fireworks and dry ice science experiments.
