In an official statement, the mayor of Wasaga Beach, Brian Smith, has shot down rumors surrounding the cleanliness of the town’s beachfront.
As indicated by the mayor’s statement, the town of Wasaga Beach has received no official correspondence from any residents or government officials that the municipality’s outdoor beach areas have been compromised in any capacity.
“The Town of Wasaga Beach takes all resident and visitor feedback seriously. However, we reject the premise of complaints that lack evidence and promote misinformation,” said the mayor in an official statement.
The foundation for such a response from the mayor is due to a recent outpouring of online activity that claims individuals are defecating on the beach — often coming in the form of videos that showcase Wasaga residents making these claims and demanding action.
Further details relayed on behalf of the mayor indicate that the town’s beachfront is a top priority, as it is the largest freshwater beach in the world, and as a result, is a major economic booster for the town.
Smith indicated in his statement that municipal representatives are perpetually advocating for the upkeep of the beachfront when engaging with the provincial government.
This often comes in the form of discussions advocating for funding to help support overall guest quality, additional patrols, structural repairs and modern amenities for public use.
The mayor’s office encourages any citizens or visitors to Wasaga Beach to contact the city if they come across any evidence that the beachfront’s cleanliness has been compromised.
