Cinema lovers have a new, immersive way to go to the movies in Brampton with the opening of the new ScreenX auditorium.
Cineplex cut the ribbon on its new ScreenX theatre at Brampton’s SilverCity Cinemas on Friday, unveiling its new 270-degree panoramic screen that surrounds the audience with imagery that makes it feel like you’re inside the movie.
The screens use multi-projection theatre technology to expand specially selected scenes onto the walls of the auditorium, which Cineplex says gives the viewer a “virtual reality-like setting” with cinema-quality resolution.
“It is one of the latest state-of-the-art technologies we’ve introduced to provide the shared experience of a movie in a social setting, immersed with big screens and big sound that you can’t replicate at home,” said Kevin Watts, executive vice president of Exhibition & LBE with Cineplex.
While Cineplex has over 170 theatres and venues across Canada, there are only 17 ScreenX auditoriums in the country and only a handful in all of Ontario, including in Toronto, Ottawa and Vaughan.
The first film selected for ScreenX viewings is Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet and Hugh Grant, and tickets are available now.
Editor’s note: This story has been updated to correct a typographical error that said Cineplex has over 17 theatres instead of 170. We regret the error.
