The big names keep on coming ahead of this year’s Hockey Night in Brampton charity game, including Toronto Maple Leafs’ alternate captain and fan-favourite Mitch Marner.

The third-annual Hockey Night in Brampton event is just two weeks away and will see former and current NHLers, Olympic Gold Medalists duke it out for a good cause.

The city has announced that Marner will join the roster of players for this year’s game along with four members of the newly-landed Brampton Steelheads following their move from Mississauga.

Steelheads goaltenders Jack Ivankovic and Ryerson Leenders will suit up for the charity match along with Marner and Steelheads forward Porter Martone and defenseman Stevie Leskovar.

Maple Leaf veterans Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmore are returning to coach two teams of all-stars in the charity match-up in support of the William Osler Health System’s cardiac care and upgrade of Peel Memorial Centre.

Marner played his minor league hockey in Durham and the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) before being signed to the NHL, making his debut with the Leafs in 2016. The star forward put up 76 points in the 2023–24 season before suffering an ankle sprain in a game against the Boston Bruins, but returned late in the season scoring 85 points in 69 games.

NHL defenseman and Canadian Gold medalist Chris Pronger and two-time Olympic Gold-medalist-turned broadcaster Tessa Bonhomme have already signed up for the charity game, along with Hockey Hall of Famer Chris Chelios.

Other stars coming out for Hockey Night in Brampton include former Toronto Maple Leafs Captain Daryl Sittler, NHLers Dylan Strome, Erik Gudbranson, Cole Perfetti, Liam Foudy, Jack McBain and Travis Barron.

Hockey Night in Brampton was launched by Mayor Patrick Brown in 2019 and has since raised over $1.4 million for the Osler Foundation with $1 million going towards the new Peel Memorial Hospital and over $400,000 supporting cardiac care.

Last year’s event raised a record-breaking $1 million for the William Osler Health System’s upgrade of Peel Memorial and another $1 million for the John Tavares Foundation, and this year the city says it hopes to break that record and raise even more funds.

Hockey Night in Brampton returns to the CAA Centre on Aug. 21. For more information, to buy tickets or to find out about sponsorship opportunities visit www.hockeynightbrampton.ca.
