Yet another big name has been added to the roster for an upcoming charity hockey game in Brampton as captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs will be coming to town.

Captain John Tavares, also known as Johnny Toronto, will join fellow Maple Leaf Mark Giordano, the Montreal Canadiens Sean Monahan, and former Chicago Blackhawk Jeremy Roenick for Hockey Night in Brampton this summer.

The charity game will help raise funds in support of William Osler Health System’s youth mental health services as well as the new Brampton hospital.

“Having kids of my own puts healthcare in perspective and how important it is to have access to it when needed, so I’m really thankful and fortunate to be able to help give back to the communities of Brampton and Etobicoke and help raise funds to provide more access to healthcare for those communities,” Tavares said in a video message promoting the charity game.

The charity game runs on August 23 at Brampton’s CAA Centre and will have all-star coaches and former NHLers Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour leading two teams of hockey legends.

Hockey Night in Brampton was first launched in 2019 and in its first year helped raise $411,000 in support of the cardiology program at Brampton Civic Hospital.

The City says youth mental health services continue to experience a surge in patient volume, with more than 28,000 adolescents in Ontario currently waitlisted to receive mental health care.

“Let’s score a big win Osler health, get your tickets before they’re sold out,” Tavares said.

Tickets are available now, and donations can also be made directly to William Osler Health Foundation.
