The weather warning may be over but many roads in Brampton are still underwater following heavy rain on Tuesday.

Localized flooding was reported in several parts of Brampton and the city is warning drivers and pedestrians to steer clear of specific intersections.

The city says it is working to respond and monitor flash flooding conditions and says to avoid the following areas if possible:

  • Kenview Boulevard and Finch Avenue.
  • Gillingham Drive and Bovaird Drive West.
  • Orenda Road and Dixie Road.
  • Clark Boulevard and Rutherford Road.
  • Brookland Drive and Balmoral Drive.
  • Avondale Boulevard and Birchbank Road.
  • Queen Street East and Bramalea Road.
  • Torbram Road and Williams Parkway.
  • Rutherford Road and Clarence Street.
  • McLaughlin Road and Flowertown Avenue.
  • Bartley Bull Parkwa. and Harper Road.

“If water in your basement has risen above the electrical outlets, baseboard heaters, furnace or electrical panel, DO NOT enter the basement until the power has been disconnected by the local electric utility,” the city said in a release.

The province says flooding on Highway 407 has led to the closure of the eastbound on-ramp at Highway 401 in Brampton, according to Ontario 511.

Videos shared on social media showed flooding across the city and rising waters in Chinguacousy Park. Localized flooding was also reported at Peel Village Golf Course and Avondale Day Care.

Brampton Fire & Emergency Services is warning residents to stay away from moving water, avoid flooded areas, keep children and pets away from water.

BFES says never to drive through flooded areas if possible, and to check your basements for flooding.
