Two people are facing charges following a violent home invasion in Oakville.
Halton police allege that around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 7, multiple people broke into a home on Bellwood Avenue, a street not far from the Cornwall Road and Maple Grove Drive intersection.
Police say the suspects forced the front door open and made their way into a bedroom, where they confronted an adult male and demanded money. Investigators allege that during the confrontation, the male was struck in the head, face and upper body. The suspects obtained a key to the Mercedes Sedan parked in the driveway and fled the scene in the vehicle, according to police.
The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Two suspects were arrested in Toronto in the late afternoon of Nov. 7, and the stolen Mercedes was recovered.
“Breaking into a residence at 2 am, violently assaulting a sleeping resident while he lays in his bed, all in an effort to steal his car. Incomprehensible. Two offenders arrested while occupying the victim’s stolen car, facing charges for previous offences,” Superintendent Dave Costantini, commander of 2 District Oakville, said in a statement.
“Unconscionable. Our officers will continue to relentlessly pursue all those who threaten the safety and security of our residents.”
Police say 18-year-old Vaughan man Jayden Batiste and 18-year-old Brampton man Dyante Johnson have both been charged with robbery, breaking and entering, aggravated assault, possession of property obtained by crime and more. Batiste was also charged with failing to comply with a release order.
Both are being held in custody pending bail hearings.
Police are seeking additional suspects and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this investigation, or anyone that may have witnessed suspicious vehicles or persons in the area of Bellwood Avenue, Constance Drive and Duncan Road around the time of the incident is asked to contact the 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216.
