A man who spent nearly four weeks on the run wanted on several firearms charges following a shooting in Brampton has been arrested by police in Waterloo.

The charges stem from an incident at a residence in Brampton on Sept. 30 when Peel Regional Police say a 36-year-old man fired a gun. No injuries were reported in the shooting but police say the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

In the weeks after the shooting police said they were searching for 36-year-old Anthony Deschepper, saying the wanted man has ties to Brampton as well as Milton, Orangeville, Tottenham and Arthur. At the time police said the firearm used in the shooting had not been recovered by police and warned members of the public not to approach the suspect.

A warrant was issued for his arrest on several firearms offences including discharge firearm, unauthorized possession of firearm and possession contrary to order.

On Wednesday, investigators say 36-year-old Deschepper, of no fixed address, was arrested by Waterloo Regional Police on an outstanding warrant and has since been returned to Peel and held for a bail hearing. None of the allegations have been tested in court.

Investigators are asking anyone who has information on this case or may have had interactions with the accused to contact Peel Regional Police by calling (905)-453-2121 ext. 2133. Anonymous information may also be submitted by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.peelcrimestoppers.ca.
