A man in his 20s has died and another man suffered life-threatening injuries following a three-vehicle crash in Mississauga.

The crash happened at Derry Road and McLaughlin Road in Mississauga around 5:30 a.m. today (Aug. 15).

Reports indicate a white car was travelling westbound on Derry Road when it crossed the median and hit an SUV eastbound lanes, then collided head-on with a black car travelling eastbound.

Reportedly the driver of the white car was killed.

The man in his late 20s was pronounced dead at the scene, a Peel Regional Paramedic Services spokesperson told insauga.com.

A middle-aged man was transported to hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries, the spokesperson said. A Peel Regional Police spokesperson said the person was in serious but stable condition.

Pending notification of next of kin no more information can be released, police said.

No other injuries were reported. The SUV reportedly had minor damage in the crash. Photos from the scene show two vehicles badly damaged with debris across the roadway.

Derry Road was blocked in both directions between Mavis and McLaughlin for the Major Collision Bureau investigation.

Police asked people to avoid the area.

Update: Police said Derry Road reopened around 12:30 p.m.
