The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for stunt driving in a school zone.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for stunt driving in a school zone.
This afternoon, an officer was conducting radar enforcement on Mayfield Road at Bramalea Road when she observed a silver 2008 Honda travelling at a speed above the posted limit.
Prabhjit Sahota, 21, of Erin, was going 117 km/hr in a posted 40 km/hr community safety zone near Mayfield Secondary School.
“Excessive speed is a component of the OPP’s “Big 4” – which is a leading cause of death or injury on our provincially patrolled roads. If you feel the need for speed, take it to the track or we’ll take you off the road,” said Constable Tamara Schubert.
Sahota has been charged with racing a motor vehicle, given a 7-day license suspension, and his vehicle has been seized for 7 days as a result of the stunt driving charge.
“Fines are doubled in Community Safety Zones, near schools and public areas. These areas are clearly marked with signs,” said The Ministry of Transportation.
The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Caledon on June 12, 2017 to answer to the charge.
