Man charged with human trafficking after woman found at Mississauga hotel

A Sudbury man is facing a rash of human trafficking, sex and related charges after Peel cops busted into a Mississauga hotel room this past Saturday (Oct. 15) and found a young woman being allegedly “taken advantage of in the sex industry.”

Officers with the Peel Regional Police Specialized Enforcement Bureau-Vice Unit made the arrest on Saturday in the hotel lobby after looking into the human trafficking investigation of a female in the GTA.

It was reported to them that a female was being taken advantage of in the sex industry.

“The allegations are that (a man) exercised control over aspects of the victim’s life and profited financially from it,” police said.

Jean Frederique, 27, of Sudbury, is charged with:

  • human trafficking
  • receive material benefit
  • exercise control, direction or influence
  • advertise sexual service
  • assault
  • possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution

He was held for a bail hearing and appeared in Brampton court on Monday (Oct. 17).

Investigators believe there may be additional victims, particularly in the GTA, and they’re urging them to contact police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3555.
