A Toronto man is facing charges in connection with a shooting earlier this year at a Mississauga nightclub that’s become well-known for such violent incidents.

Officers from the Peel Regional Police 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau arrested the man yesterday (Oct. 16) with help from members of the Peterborough Police force.

The charges are related to a June 5 shooting at HER Nightclub, located in the Eglinton Ave./Dixie Rd. area of the city.

Police say there were no injuries in the shooting, which unfolded at about 3 a.m. following a dispute between multiple people.

Shakeem Anderson-Henry, 29, of Toronto, is charged with possession of a firearm (two counts), knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and discharge firearm in reckless manner.

He was held for a bail hearing in Brampton court.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call investigators at 905-453-2121, ext. 1233, or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

HER Nightclub has been the scene of five shootings among dozens of violent incidents in the past year or so.

On Sept. 8, it was shut down for two weeks after being issued a Notice of Suspension by the City of Mississauga due to the violence. Subsequently, bar management indicated it wasn’t known when or if the club would reopen.

Peel police have responded to more than two dozen violent incidents at the east-end nightclub since January 2021, the most recent a double shooting on Sept. 4 that sent one man to hospital in critical condition.

A second man suffered less serious injuries in what was the fifth shooting at HER Nightclub this year.

Faced with continued and escalating violence at the nightclub, police announced on Aug 12 that they were increasing patrols in the area of the nightclub to try mitigate further incidents.

“The elevated police resources allocated to responding to calls for service at this establishment impact our ability to respond to other priority calls promptly,” police said at the time, adding they were also issuing a public warning to people to be aware of the safety risks associated with the club.
