Man, 95, charged with careless driving after pedestrian, 72, killed in Ontario

A 95-year-old man has been charged with careless driving causing death after a 72-year-old woman was struck and killed while walking near a store in Guelph.
Guelph Police said in a news release on Monday the woman and a 74-year-old man, both of Guelph, were walking toward a store on Eramosa Road, near Stevenson Street North, at around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 when they were struck by a car.
The vehicle, a Chevrolet sedan, was leaving the parking lot of a retail store when it hit the two people, police said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the man who was walking with her sustained minor injuries and was treated in hospital.
Police said the driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
On Sunday, police laid charges in the case. A 95-year-old man from Guelph-Eramosa Township was charged with careless driving causing death.
He’s scheduled to appear in court in December.
