UPDATE: OPP said in a social media post Thursday afternoon that the Highway 401 westbound off-ramp to Trafalgar Road in Halton is closed.
Drivers are advised to use the Winston Churchill Boulevard exit as an alternative route.
Residents or visitors in the Halton area who are planning to head out for some shopping or considering exploring Boxing Day sales at nearby malls and stores are cautioned by police about significant traffic congestion on Highway 401 this morning.
In a social media post, the OPP issued an alert just after 8 a.m., advising drivers of traffic delays starting at the westbound off-ramp of Trafalgar Road, near the Toronto Premium Outlet.
UPDATE: Traffic congestion continues to build along Highway 401 westbound, with the latest live camera feeds showing significant delays beginning just past Highway 407.
Although road closures are not in effect at this time, “drivers are advised to use the Winston Churchill Boulevard exit as an alternative to ensure a safe and smooth journey,” police said.
Law enforcement is also urging motorists not to park or walk on the shoulder of the highway or the exit ramp.
In addition, Mississauga OPP will also be around to monitor the area throughout the day.
More information to follow as it becomes available.
