Major road work on The Queensway West and other area roads is expected to wrap up this fall.

Road work and related traffic slowdowns on four main routes in central Mississauga are nearing an end after almost a full year of impacts on area residents and motorists, project leaders said in a recent update.

Peel Region officials overseeing upgrades to the sanitary sewer system and the fixing/replacing of dozens of aging manholes on The Queensway West, Old Carriage Road, Paisley Boulevard West and Confederation Parkway said in a July 3 online project update the work is scheduled to be completed by the fall.

The major construction work, which began last July 31, targets roads that border a significant portion of the Erindale/Huron Park area reaching from Westdale Mall in the northwest to Mississauga Hospital (The Queensway West and Hurontario Street) in the southeast.

“This work is required to maintain and improve existing wastewater services,” project leaders said in their update.

Moving forward the remainder of the summer and into fall, crews will be working Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

“We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but shorter working days would require your neighbourhood to be under construction for a longer period of time,” project officials said.

In addition to traffic impacts, other issues residents have dealt with since last summer — and will potentially continue to experience — include odours, temporary driveway blockages, increased noise and interruptions to wastewater services.

Lining work of the pipes may create noise in the area at all hours of the day and night, officials added, noting they don’t expect “significant noise.”

Ongoing work will require traffic to be reduced to a single lane during construction on:

  • Confederation Parkway (at various locations between Paisley Boulevard West and The Queensway West)
  • The Queensway West (at various locations between Glengarry Road and Confederation Parkway)
  • Old Carriage Road (at various locations between Dundas Street West and The Queensway West)
  • Paisley Boulevard West (at various locations between Floradale Drive and Confederation Parkway)

“These lane closures will be required while we are relining the sanitary sewer on each street. We expect the lane reductions to occur for up to two months on each street,” officials said.
