Big truck collides with garbage truck in Mississauga.

One woman is dead following a mid-afternoon collision between a tractor-trailer and a garbage truck on a major road in Mississauga’s north end.

Peel Regional Police said in a post to social media that two people were rushed to a trauma centre with critical injuries in the wake of the Thursday crash, which happened just before 2:30 p.m. at Goreway Drive and Derry Road in Malton.

Police added one of the people, later confirmed to be a woman who was driving the garbage truck, has since been pronounced dead.

The driver of the other truck, a man, remains in critical condition in hospital, a police spokesperson told reporters at the scene.

Reports indicate there weren’t any pedestrians involved in the crash.

As the investigation continues, eastbound and westbound lanes on Derry Road are closed to traffic from Goreway Drive to west of Highway 427, police said.
