Longo's grocery store opens in Mississauga

A new Longo’s grocery store will soon open in the northwest part of Mississauga.

With four of its 37 GTA and southern Ontario stores already located in Mississauga, a fifth store is opening in the Meadowvale area of Canada’s seventh-largest city.

The new store is located just to the northeast of the intersection of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Argentia Road, steps south of Highway 401.

A firm opening date has not yet been announced.

The Canadian chain was founded in 1956 by brothers Joe, Tommy and Gus Longo, who five years earlier had come to Canada from Italy.

They opened their first Canadian store on Yonge Street in Toronto, at Castlefield Avenue, before opening their second location some years later in the Malton area of Mississauga, at the corner of Airport and Derry roads.

The Longos sold the Toronto store in 1971 in order to focus more on the first Mississauga location.

Longo’s head office is located in Vaughan and its stores are located predominantly in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

The sign says it all. A new Longo’s will soon open in northwest Mississauga.
