Major Mississauga road to close for partial demolition of QEW overpass

Mississauga Rd. near the QEW will be completely shut down to traffic for part of the Nov. 25-26 weekend as work crews carry out a partial demolition of the highway overpass.
The task marks a milestone in the ongoing rehabilitation of the QEW bridge over the Credit River, a massive project that began well over a year ago.
Officials with the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project overseeing the major undertaking say Mississauga Rd., from the QEW westbound off-ramp to South Sheridan Way, will be fully closed from Friday, Nov. 25 at 9 p.m. until the following morning at 8 a.m.
The closure will be in effect to allow workers to conduct a “partial demolition of the existing QEW overpass at Mississauga Rd.,” project leaders say, adding traffic disruptions are expected in the area.
During the work, access to Mississauga Cres. will be maintained with paid-duty police officers directing traffic, officials say.
Work on the overpass and associated road closure is dependent on weather and subject to a change of date.
Meanwhile, project leaders note, the QEW eastbound off-ramp to South Sheridan Way will be closed tonight (Nov. 17) from midnight until 5 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Temporary nighttime/overnight closures have been commonplace the past several months both on the QEW and on Mississauga Rd. where it connects with the busy highway.
All work is being completed in order to facilitate winter staging activities, project officials say, adding more traffic disruptions are anticipated as work proceeds in the coming weeks and months.
Night and weekend work along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd. is expected to impact traffic for the duration of the project.
