Major live concert this weekend from the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra

One of Mississauga’s most beloved musical ensembles is back for another season of major concerts and live entertainment.

The Mississauga Symphony Orchestra’s 2024-2025 season features an exciting line-up of music ranging from classical masterworks by iconic composers to popular holiday favourites.

As a special treat, this season will feature breathtaking performances from world-class soloists including Eric Guo, Daniel Vnukowski, Corey Gemmell, Mary-Katherine Finch, Romulo Delgado, Sara Papini, and more.

The entire season will take place at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre, an established venue known for hosting some of the biggest cultural shows and events in the city.

2024 Concert Line Up from October to December 2024

The Heroic Symphony – A Mayor’s Gala Concert
Saturday, October 19, 2024 – 8 pm

For this unmissable season premiere, join Mayor Carolyn Parrish and the MSO for a celebration of Mississauga’s 50th anniversary! A special post-concert VIP reception with Mayor Parrish, Maestro Mastromonaco, members of Council, and special guests will wrap up a fantastic evening of music and mingling.

The Heroic Symphony – A Mayor’s Gala Concert will feature two masterpieces of the Romantic era – Chopin’s first piano concerto, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”. Metropolis Overture, a special composition by Mississauga composer Larysa Kuzmenko, will round out the concert.

A Czech Celebration
Saturday, November 23, 2024 – 8 pm

The MSO celebrates the vibrancy, diversity, and grandeur of Czech music with A Czech Celebration, a concert featuring iconic Czech works including Bedřich Smetana’s lively Overture to The Bartered Bride, Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, as well as Dvořák’s virtuosic Cello Concerto performed by guest artist and MSO principal cellist Mary-Katherine Finch.

A Merry Little Christmas
Saturday, December 14, 2024 – 4 pm & 7:30 pm

The holidays are coming up fast, which means the return of MSO’s popular Christmas concert, A Merry Little Christmas. A combined orchestra of 150 MSO and MSYO musicians will perform your favourite festive music – a perfect treat to begin the most wonderful time of the year.

Like previous years, there will be two versions of this concert: A one-hour matinée that’s suited towards families with young children (tickets only $25), and a full all-ages concert later that same evening.

Sultans of String: Refuge
Saturday, February 8, 2025 – 8 pm

The first show of the new year, Canadian fusion masters Sultans of String bring their unique brand of musical synergy and collaboration to the Living Arts Centre to perform their visionary album Refuge with the MSO – a world-premiere with orchestra. Refuge speaks to the challenges facing the world’s displaced peoples – their stories, their songs, their persistence, and their humanity.

Beethoven & Schumann
Saturday, March 29, 2025 – 8 pm

Beethoven & Schumann promises to be an evening of powerful, evocative music from two of history’s most renowned musicians. The concert will feature two major works: Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 featuring guest artist Daniel Vnukowski, and Schumann’s Symphony No. 4. The pairing highlights Beethoven’s bold, classical precision, and Schumann’s deeply expressive and lyrical approach to composition.

A Pavarotti & Friends Tribute
Saturday, April 26, 2025 – 8 pm

This concert will be an unforgettable evening of music in tribute to legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti. This spectacular event brings together a diverse lineup of world-class artists, each performing a blend of classical, pop, and opera, reflecting the eclectic spirit of the original Pavarotti and Friends benefit concerts.

Symphonic Grandeur
Saturday, May 24, 2025 – 8 pm

The MSO wraps their 2024/25 season with Symphonic Grandeur, a concert featuring two powerful works: Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, and Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 performed by guest artist, MSO concertmaster Corey Gemmell.

Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 is one of his most beloved works, filled with graceful melodies and sparkling virtuosity. In contrast, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 is a monumental piece of 20th-century music, full of dramatic tension and emotional depth, reflecting the composer’s response to political pressures in Soviet Russia.
