Major intersection closed after police cruiser smashes with another car in Brampton

A police officer and a woman were sent hospital after a major collision that involved a police cruiser in Brampton.
A Peel Regional Police officer and a female driver were both transported to hospital following the two-vehicle collision in Brampton Monday night (Aug. 28), Peel Regional Police said in a tweet.
There was no further information about their condition.
Emergency crews were called to Bovaird Drive and Dixie Road around 9:30 p.m. for a report of a collision, police said.
A Peel police cruiser and a second vehicle collided, according to police.
There was no information about the circumstances leading up to the collision.
Roads in the area remain closed as police continue to investigate.
In an update just before 7 a.m. this morning, police said the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is invoking their mandate.
The SIU is responsible for investigating circumstances involving police that have resulted in a death or serious injury, or if a firearm was discharged at a person.
