A major coffee chain is coming to the newly renovated Hazel McCallion Library.
The Hazel McCallion Central Library reopened on Dec. 19 after $49 million in renovations that started in April 2021. The renovation is the library’s first update since 1991.
Renovations include a reimagined and “state-of-the-art” resource centre. There are modern new features such as audio editing booths, a fully operational industrial kitchen and a 3D printing lab. Patrons can work on digitization, digital creation and virtual reality projects.
The new renovation will also include, a Tim Hortons coffee shop.
The City of Mississauga confirmed today (Jan. 11) that the new Tim Hortons will be approximately 2,400 square feet and located on the ground floor facing the south atrium.
Tim Hortons is working on the design and layout, but they anticipate ample seating, a city spokesperson said.
The target open date is at the end of September of this year.
The renovations also include more self-serve options, a new interactive and creative children’s space on the first floor, more single-use quiet spaces and multi-use rooms, and an enhanced “Open Window Hub” to support homelessness outreach and prevention.
A new reflection room for prayer, meditation or quiet contemplation is also part of the upgrades.
The new facility will meet Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) requirements to provide barrier-free access.
And there is an updated heating, ventilation and air conditioning system plus the upgraded washrooms will feature contact-free fixtures.
The official grand opening is scheduled for Feb. 3.
