Lunar New Year celebration to be hosted in Brampton

An event to celebrate Lunar New Year is set to take place in Brampton next week.

The City of Brampton, along with the Brampton Chinese Business Association (BCBA), is inviting the community to celebrate Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Rabbit, at an in-person event on Jan. 26.

The Year of the Rabbit begins on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, and refers to people born in the years 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999 and 2011.

The rabbit is known for being the luckiest of the twelve animals and people who are born in the year of the rabbit are typically calm and peaceful.

The event, which will take place at the City Hall Atrium & Conservatory, located at 2 Wellington St. W, will feature remarks by Mayor Patrick Brown, Members of Council and Jenny Lo of the BCBA.

The celebration is set to feature live calligraphy art, giveaways, sponsorship activations by HSBC and Algoma University and traditional cuisine provided by 9 Queen Chinese.

The event is being sponsored by Algoma University and HSBC and will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“On behalf of the City of Brampton, I invite everyone to join in and take part in the cultural celebrations that contribute to Brampton being a vibrant Mosaic,” said Mayor Patrick Brown.

“This month, there is endless opportunity to learn more and celebrate the communities within Brampton.”
