This sign will soon be gone from several stores.

As part of a nationwide conversation of names, five local Lowe’s stores will now operate under a new banner…but a familiar one.

The stores, in Mississauga, Burlington, Milton and two in Brampton, will soon be known as RONA+ and feature a new shopping concept.

The moves come as a result of a series of ownership changes during the past few years which saw the American-based Lowe’s first acquire the RONA brand and, most recently, Lowe’s selling its Canadian operations to a private equity firm.

RONA originated in Quebec and has a company history going back to 1939 selling home improvement and hardware which will continue as the company’s business focus.

Andrew Iacobucci, president and CEO of RONA Inc., said the name change is an important step for the company and shows a renewed commitment to the brand which is well known in Canada.

“Rona has been a household name for home improvement in Canada for close to 85 years now,” said Iacobucci. “It stands for great service, exciting product and brand assortments, good value, and a strong sense of community. We want to build on that and create momentum for this beloved Canadian-operated brand.”

The new concept at RONA + is meant to increase the shopping experience for customers through the addition of more stylish products as well as lower prices for a number of items, according to the company, as well as more benefits for home improvement professionals.

Here are the locations where RONA+ will be located:

  • Mississauga – 5348 Mavis Rd.
  • Brampton – 370 Kennedy Rd. S.
  • Brampton – 10111 Heart Lake Rd.
  • Burlington – 3270 Harrison Cres.
  • Milton – 55 Ontario St. S.
