A Japanese restaurant with a long history in Canada is opening a new location in Square One in Mississauga.

Edo Japan, known for its hot teppanyaki and hand-rolled sushi, is slated to open in Square One Shopping Centre, 100 City Centre Dr., this summer.

The restaurant, in Food Central on the first floor of the mall, has a sign posted indicating they will open soon. The new location hopes to open on July 11, according to the website.

The menu includes teriyaki meat and vegetable dishes, classic sushi rolls, sukiyaki beef, fried noodles, ramen and bubble tea.

Edo Japan is one of the oldest Japanese restaurant chains in Canada.

Reverend Susumu Ikuta, a Buddhist minister, opened the first location in a Calgary mall food court in 1979. Ikuta came up with the idea of serving traditional teppan-style meals with a signature teriyaki sauce, according to the Edo Japan website.

There are now locations across Canada, including one in Heartland Town Centre.
