Paramedics and firefighters are tending to dozens of residents at a long-term care home in Mississauga’s east end after a nearby creek overflowed and flooded the building.
Mississauga firefighters said in a post to social media a nursing home at 1060 Eglinton Ave. E., Tyndall Seniors Village, took in large amounts of water early Tuesday afternoon.
“The creek beside the nursing home overflowed, causing extensive flooding,” Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services officials said in a post to X (formerly Twitter).
The creek is situated just to the east of the long-term care home, which is located one block east of Tomken Road.
It’s not clear at this point if residents are being evacuated from the building. However, fire officials said other city officials, including a building inspector, have been called to the scene.
The incident is one of numerous calls responded to on Tuesday by firefighters, Peel Regional Police and Peel Paramedics as torrential rain that fell across the city and GTA has led to dozens of dangerous flooding situations on roads, highways and in homes and buildings.
