Lockdowns have been lifted and one person is in custody after police got a call about someone armed with a weapon inside a school in Brampton on Friday.
Peel Regional Police put North Park Secondary School in Brampton under a lockdown shortly before 3 p.m. on Friday saying there was an “unconfirmed report” of someone seen inside the school with a weapon.
Police put North Park Secondary School under lockdown while Brampton’s Russell D. Barber Public School was also placed on a partial lockdown, also known as a hold-and-secure order.
Few details were immediately available but no injuries were reported, police said.
In an update at 3:46 p.m., police said one male had been taken into custody and the lockdowns had been lifted. Police did not say whether any weapon was recovered.
Friday’s incident is at least the second time North Park Secondary School has been put under police orders this school year as an “altercation between students” which involved an irritant spray led police to temporarily lockdown the school last month.
Hold-and-secure orders are used by police as a precaution at schools and are considered less serious than a full lockdown.
